Uninterrupted and high-speed internet connectivity is essential for university level students at this age of globalisation.
University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan made the remarks at a seminar in Dhaka on Monday.
The UGC arranged the two-day international seminar on 'Strategies for Sustainable Research and Education Networks' in Dhaka.
Prof Mannan said the UGC works to enhance quality of education and research at tertiary level through uninterrupted high-speed internet connectivity.
Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) provides this internet connectivity among public and private institutions with assistance from the World Bank.
The UGC is implementing BdREN programme under its Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project.
"Teachers, students and researchers of the country are being immensely benefited by BdREN," said Prof Mannan.
Asia Pacific University Vice-Chancellor Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury he suggested inclusion of private universities and national level research organisations in BdREN programme.
Prof Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology said investment is very important for ensuring quality at the tertiary level of education.
According to a UNB report, Vice-Chancellors and faculty members from public and private universities, high officials from Ministry of Education, UGC and BdREN were, among others, present.
