‘Teachers' role essential for skilled human resources’

Academics at a discussion in Rajshahi on Saturday said role and responsibility of higher seats of learning especially at universities is very important for making their students skilled and competent.

They mentioned the university teachers should be responsive towards devising ways and means on how to build their students capable of facing the present challenging job-markets both at home and abroad.

The observation came at a workshop titled "Role, Responsibility, Rights, Rules and Regulations of University Teachers" at Senate Building of Rajshahi University (RU).

RU Teachers Association (RUTA) organised the workshop largely attended by academics and teachers.

Chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission Prof Abdul Mannan addressed the discussion as chief guest with RUTA President Prof Nazrul Islam in the chair.

RU Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan, Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha, mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul and RUTA General Secretary Prof Ruhul Amin also spoke.

Prof Mannan said the teachers can play the most vital role in improving quality of education through disseminating time-befitting knowledge among the students with utmost sincerity, professionalism and noble commitments.

He also narrated the role of the teachers and developing their teaching skills for improving standard and quality of education.

Terming teachers as architects of building an enlightened and knowledge-based society, the chief guest urged them to revive their dignity and honour through ensuring quality and need-based modern education to produce worthy citizens.

In the workshop, three academic sessions were held elaborating the role and responsibility of the teachers, reports BSS.

Among others, former VC of RU Prof Sayeedur Rahman Khan conducted the sessions as resource person.
