Shirin Sharmin stresses knowledge-based education

Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Tuesday asked the young learners to acquire knowledge-based education as they are the catalyst of a changing society.

“Today’s youths will establish a developed Bangladesh through bringing a positive change in their thinking and ideas,” she told the 14th founding anniversary function of the University of Liberal Arts (ULAB) in the city’s Dhanmondi area.

With Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof HM Zahirul Haque in the chair, it was addressed by Emeritus Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam and Vice-President of the ULAB Board of Trustees Dr Kazi Anis Ahmed.

Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said now-a-days every citizen of the globe is connected to each other through information technology and the Internet.

The present government, she said, has launched modern education system in the country considering demand of the time, reports BSS.

The incumbent government has been working to provide internet service at the grassroots to build new generation skilled in information technology and to make easy access to internal and global communication technology.

The Speaker also urged the young learners to work together to build a hunger, poverty and discrimination free ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A documentary on ULAB University’s 14-year activities was presented during the programme.
