Removing barrier between education and industry

TEXBIZ, a brainchild of Butex Business Club based in Bangladesh University of Textiles, is going to hold a textile based business case solving contest. The aim of the competition is to bridge the gap between knowledge acquired through textile education and its practical applications in the industry, says a press release.

It will be an interuniversity business case competition designed to equip the undergrad students and provide them a platform with the necessary skills and practical orientation required to face the business challenges that arises in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector of Bangladesh.

The challenges of the textile and clothing industry of Bangladesh such as higher lead time, lack of skilled workforce, increase in labour wages, HR problems, high worker turnover rate, the shift of apparel sourcing countries towards nearshore countries for their apparel manufacturing, risks of job cuts due to automation in manufacturing process etc. will be primarily reflected in the case studies.

"Students should be trained as a competent entity having skills beyond their educational knowledge to excel in their future career and entrepreneurial ventures," said Patrick Drishya, a senior executive of BUTEX Business Club regarding the importance of business case competition.

TEXBIZ is back again this year, third time in a row even better and bigger as "Morrison TEXBIZ 2019" powered by DYSIN. Soon after its first inception in 2017, it earned huge popularity among the undergraduate students. Last year, it experienced a staggering rise in participation of about 106 teams from 23 universities, which was only 26 teams from 13 universities two years before.

Sakib Hafiz, a former student of BUTEX, now working as a management trainee-merchandising at Marks and Spencer, speaks about Texbiz and its organiser: "I have never enjoyed any other event like this in BUTEX life. Participants from other universities were both surprised and amazed to see such arrangements in BUTEX."

This year the competition flow consists of three consecutive stages of assessment to declare the winners of Texbiz. The first round will be an online case submission round. Top 32 teams will be selected for the on-spot case solving and presentation. From the second round, eight finalists will be taken to the grand finale who will fight for the championship title along with first runner-up and second runner-up positions.

The champion team will get Tk 50,000, first runners-up and second runners-up teams will get Tk 30,000 and Tk 20,000. Riasat Zaman, one of the finalists in the previous year's event, appreciated BUTEX Business Club for taking the initiative in blooming the latent talents of the participants with regard to knowledge gained in the textile industry, a growing sector playing the critical role to our country's economic development.

To participate in Morrison Texbiz 2019, a team has to be formed consisting of at least three members and a maximum of four members. Each member must be an undergrad student from the same institution. A team has to complete payment first through bKash and then collect the transaction ID to get registered before the deadline in the following link :https://www.butexbc.org/registration.
