President Abdul Hamid will attend the 20th Convocation of Independent University, Bangladesh on Thursday.
The convocation will be held at 2:30pm on IUB campus in Bashundhara residential area. President Hamid, the university's chancellor, will preside over the convocation ceremony.
Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury will attend the programme as special guest. University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan will also attend the ceremony.
Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, founder-chairman of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, will be present as the Convocation Speaker, says a UNB report.
A total of 1,166 students will receive degrees from six different schools under 29 programmes and disciplines. Of them, 825 are in undergraduate programmes, while 341 students will get MA degrees.
Biochemistry student Samara Tawziat Choudhury is this year's Valedictorian and Chancellors Gold Medalist. Four students from undergraduate programmes will receive medals and crests for their outstanding contribution to extracurricular activities.
