Non-fiction book fair begins at DU

A three-day 'Non-fiction Book Fair' began on Monday on the premises of Faculty of Business Studies of Dhaka University (DU).

The fair was jointly organized by the Daily Bonik Barta and the faculty of Business Studies for the sixth time.

DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the fair by releasing balloons as the chief guest.

Addressing the ceremony the DU VC said, "The old books which are preserved in world famous libraries and museums, maximum of them are non-fictions. To enrich proper knowledge, there is no alternative to reading non-fiction book."

"The young generation can gather knowledge by such type of book fair. The fair will also encourage students, teachers and other visitors to buy and read books," he hoped.

Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, DU Business Studies Faculty Dean Dr Muhammad Abdul Moyeen, Social Science Faculty Dean Dr Zia Rahman, DU Teachers' Association General Secretary Dr Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan, Editor of the Bonik Barta Dewan Hanif Mahmud, and Managing Director and CEO of various government-owned banks and private banks were also present there. Editor of Bonik Barta Dewan Hanif Mahmud conducted the inauguration ceremony.

A total of 39 publishing houses are participating in the fair. All of the books are announced to sell at a 30 per cent less price.

The fair remains open for all from 10am to 8pm every day till December 28.
