'New educational institutions to come under MPO scheme'

New educational institutions will be included in the list of Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme though the issue was not mentioned in the new budget.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid made the remarks while replying to a query from a reporter after a programme on Monday.

"Many issues were not mentioned in the budget. We've already talked to the Finance Minister over MPO. The Prime Minister is also aware of it," the minister said.

Nahid said they are now working to include the non-MPO institutions in the MPO list.

Assuring the protesting teachers and workers of non-MPO institutions about his ministry's sincerity, he urged them to get back to their work, reports UNB.

The minister handed over of two microbuses by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) to the Prime Minister's Education Assistance Trust at the secretariat on Monday.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith had assured that there will be announcement for new educational institutions in the budget for but there was no mention about it in the budget.

Non-MPO private teachers and workers demonstrating in front of the Jatiya Press Club since Sunday, demanding MPO enlistment of their institutions.

Additional secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Department Sohrab Hossain and Managing Director of Prime Minister's Education Assistant Trust Nurul Karim were present.
