IUB celebrates World Pharmacists Day 2018

The Department of Pharmacy of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB)celebrated the World Pharmacists Day on September 25 at the university’s own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka.

The day was observed by a colourful rally organised by the IUB Pharmacy Department students.This was followed by a seminar, said a statement.

 

Prof. Milan Pagon, Vice Chancellor (In charge), IUB, was the Chief Guest of the event.

Prof. ABM Faroque, former Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka, was the Key Speaker of the program. Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Khaleque, Dean, School of Environmental Science and Management (SESM); Prof. Dr. JMA Hannan, Head, Department of Pharmacy, IUB; and Prof. MSK Choudhuri, former Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Jahangirnagar University also spoke on the occasion.

 

The speakers discussed about expanded job opportunities of pharmacists in Bangladesh as well as all over the world. Highlighting the significant role of the pharmacists now a days, speakers stated that they have been performing sound professional responsibilities along with the physicians for quality treatment with appropriate medicines.

 

To mark the day, booths of various pharmaceutical companies were installed where freeblood-sugar and blood-pressure checkup were done. Leading pharmaceutical companies including SK-F, Square, Beacon, NIPRO-JMI, Popular and Hamdard participated with IUB to achieve the objectives of this significant day.

 

This year's theme of the day is “Pharmacist: Your medicines experts”. As designated in 2009 by the International Pharmaceutical Federation-FIP Council in Istanbul, Turkey, declared that September 25to be observed every year as World Pharmacists Day. FIP encourages pharmacists to use this day to organize activities that promote and advocate for the role of the pharmacists in improving health in every corner of the world.
