Chittagong University Human Resource Club (CUHRC), an extra-curricular organisation affiliated with the human resource management department of CU, took a social welfare initiative on January 16 and continued till January 19 with the slogan, "Let the warmth of love spread to all souls." Under the supervision of the Green and Community Service wing of the organisation and event management team, the necessary clothes and dry food items were distributed in different parts of Chattogram under the title 'AlorFari.'
Winter is always harsh for the poorest portion of society. Pandemic has made it even harsher this year. Keeping that in mind, CUHRC started collecting donations at their temporary booths at Sholoshahar station in Chittagong city. They arranged warm clothing for more than 600 people, along with several essential dry food items such as rice, pulse, flour, salt, and onion. After the approval of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, a group of lively members of the club reached the needy people in different parts of Chattogram city to help them.
Starting from Bahaddarhat area of the city, the organisers distributed aid in numerous identified areas and settlements of railway platforms and known bus stations. 220 families were provided with necessary food items. Besides, packaged food was distributed among 400 helpless individuals. Cash grants were distributed among 10 families; among those, two are from Rangamati district and the rest are from Noakhali, Faridpur, and Chattogram districts.
Appreciating the spontaneous activities of the HR club, associate professor of the Department of Human Resource Management and moderator of CU HR Club, Dr Md Aftab Uddin said, "The 'AlorFari' project adopted by the CUHRC is undoubtedly a commendable initiative, which has brought smiles to the faces of many needy people in Chattogram. The club has undertaken this kind of social welfare work out of the urge to work for the people of the country, and this trend shall continue."
Nizam Uddin Khan, the president of the club, expressed his hope for more such humane projects. "We wished to put smiles on the faces of some destitute people. I believe we will continue to do such great work in future and contribute to social welfare as well as education."
Tahmid Shahriar Dipu, vice president of event management at CUHRC, also echoed the voice of the club president. "The purpose was to do something for humanity, to bring smiles to the faces of the poor. We spent nights in different parts of the city and tried to distribute aid fairly. We also wanted to motivate the students to come forward for the service of humanity in this way," explained Tahmid.
Apart from distributing winter clothes and dry food, CUHRC distributed food to the children of Shah Muniria Mainia Orphanage and Hefzakhana.
