ICT in primary curriculum within two years: Jabbar

Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said the government is going to include information and communication technology (ICT) in primary curriculum within next two years.

"Where only 800,000 people used to have internet connectivity in 2008. Now in 2018, we have 80.5 million internet users in the country. We have around 150 million people, who are now using mobile phones. Literacy rate in the country now stands at 72 per cent," he said.

The minister said this while addressing the second and concluding day of a training workshop in the capital on programming competition for children and adolescents.

The workshop has been organised by Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and Young Bangla, the youth platform of the Centre for Research and Information (CRI). ICT teachers of some selected schools and a coordinator of Young  Bangla have been given the training during the workshop.

"The training workshop has been held successfully. Now the people, who were trained in the workshop, will go back to their respective institutes and would organise area-based training and competition," assistant coordinator of  CRI Tanmay Ahmed told BSS.
