Finance festival attracts youths

Department of Finance, University of Dhaka held its signature flagship annual programme on October 14, 2017. Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University  Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the event. This much-awaited programme created enthusiasm among the current students, alumni and the faculty members of the Department of Finance, University of Dhaka. This programme is held annually to enhance the bonding of the students of the Department of Finance and provide them with corporate vibe through the acquaintance with alumni of this department of the Faculty of Business Studies.

This year 'Finance Fest 2017' was held at TSC auditorium, Dhaka University. The entire programme was coordinated by the students of 20th batch and assisted by 21st, 22nd and 23rd batches.

After 3.30 pm on that day, students, faculties, staff and alumni members started gathering at the venue, creating the whole area of TSC a retrospective place, especially for the former students. This programme kicked off with the unveiling of this year logo by the Vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka, symbolising the unity of students, teachers and alumni members. In his inaugural speech, Professor Akthturazzaman said, 'Students of this critical moments should be much more concerned and knowledgeable not only about their academic studies but also keep developing professional skills from the university level so that they can excel quickly in any profession after getting into the job by exhibiting their skills.'

Guest of honour Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies addressed, 'Finance being the most talked about business phenomenon around the world, we are trying to develop our finance graduates to compete with the rest of the world. We are offering exchange study programme with some of the leading universities from the USA and Canada for our graduates'. Chairing the programme, Chairman of Finance Department Dr. Md. Kismatul Ahsan stated, 'Our efforts will be continued to make this programme more vibrant by inviting the successful alumni members from diverse corporate background to orient our finance graduates about the success stories of business'.

The programme also included uncovering this year's magazine 'FINtastic' containing  write-ups of students about the trends and new ideas of business and showcasing the achievements of the students of this department.

The best part of the programme actually started at 6.30 pm when the alumni students from different batches started coming. It became the reunion place for all of them for sharing their views, greetings and remembering their campus life.

 A third-year student Naznin Ahsan Jemi said, 'Finance tends to become the leading business concepts from now on and being informed about the exposure about finance from our seniors has been really inspiring. Also the guidance they have given us will be instrumental in creating the required skills to combat ever-increasing challenging job market'.

 Jarin Tasmin Preyeta, a second year student,  said, 'This platform is actually offering us a unique way of being oriented what corporate life would be and how to start preparation for handling it from our alumni members as they are cooperative in sharing their views'.

The cultural programme started during evening. Students enchanted the audience with their stunning performance which included the featuring songs dedicatedly composed for this year's event, solo dance, songs, dramas but the best part of the cultural programme was to show tribute to the great actor of Bangladesh 'Nayok Raj Razzak'.

The Finance Fest 2017 night ended with the promise of continuing this legacy by upholding the relationship between the students and teachers.
