EDU launches two scholarships in honour of Nutan Singha and Binod Bihari

East Delta University (EDU) has launched two new scholarships in honour of Liberation war martyr Nutan Chandra Singha and anti-British revolutionary Binod Bihari Chowdhury.

Under these scholarships, students will get a 70 per cent bursary on tuition fees if they take admission in MSc in Data Analytics and Design Thinking for Business and M.A. in English programme.

Prominent people of the country welcomed EDU for taking the initiative to introduce such types of grants in honour of the two great personalities of Bangladesh, said a media release.

Adv. Rana Dasgupta, General Secretary of the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council in Bangladesh, expressed his sentiments, saying, "in the crisis of patriotism and philanthropy, EDU authorities have taken the effort to preserve the eternal memory of Binod Bihari Chowdhury, a comrade-in-arms of Mastarda Surja Sen, the hero of the historic Chittagong Youth Uprising and Martyr; and Nutan Chandra Singha, a selfless patriotic social worker. The initiative taken to keep the immortal memento alive for future generations is not only praiseworthy but also unique."

Prof. Dr Bishwajit Chanda also appreciated the initiative of EDU.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) member stated, "EDU has been making a significant contribution in the field of higher education in Bangladesh. The recent initiative taken for the sake of the students by paying homage to the country's notable personalities is highly commendable. Through this, pupils will learn about our predecessors' contributions and be inspired to do something better in their future."

The Founder Vice Chairman of the university, Sayeed Al Noman, said, "Various talented personages have taken the lead and come forward at different times during the needs of the society and the country in the long history of Bengal. Out of a sense of responsibility towards the country and the nation, EDU has brought special scholarships in the name of such outstanding people. Because we think, if the true genius does not get the respect he deserves, the continuity and inspiration to develop such a personality in the next generation will not be created".

East Delta University launched MSc in Data Analytics & Design Thinking for Business for the first time in Bangladesh, and offering 70 per cent bursary on tuition fees under the bursarship of Nutan Chandra Singha.

Martyr Nutan Chandra Singha had set up charitable hospitals, schools and colleges for the help of the common in Raozan of Chattogram, which still benefits the people.

Moreover, he also played an incomparable and courageous role in the struggle for the independence of Bangladesh. Thus, the EDU authority has taken this initiative to highlight his contribution to the generation and pay respect to him, the release said.

Binod Bihari Chowdhury, one of the pioneers of the anti-British movement, is mainly known for his participation in the Chittagong Armoury Raid led by the revolutionist Mastarda Surja Sen. He has inspired young people to participate in various political crises and movements throughout his life, even in his old age.

Therefore, new students enrolling in M.A. in English will get a 70 per cent waiver under the 'Binod Bihari Chowdhury Scholarship Award', inaugurated in his honour, the release added.

Razib Singha, the grandson of the martyr Nutan Chandra Singha, thanked Sayeed Al Noman and the EDU family for this great initiative.

He said, "We have taken various measures to protect the memories of Nutan Chandra Singha as a family, for the first time, such organisation has taken a step. We wish every success to this unique endeavour to spread the ideals of the nation's eminent people among the next generation. EDU sets an example for others to follow under the excellent leadership of Sayeed Al Noman".

Professor Muhammad Sikandar Khan, Vice-Chancellor of the university, commented, "East Delta University Trust, founded by the freedom fighters and children of the freedom fighters, is governing the university to uphold the spirit of the liberation war. They have enriched the university with various opportunities for the sake of patriotism and the welfare of the country. This is not the first time East Delta University has taken the measure to honour the distinguished figures of the history of Bengal. Earlier, EDU awarded Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq Scholarship for the students of the Masters of Public Policy and Leadership programme."
