DU Chhatra Union gets new committee

The Dhaka University Unit of Bangladesh Students Union, popularly known as Chhatra Union, has formed its new executive committee with Shimul Kumbhojkar as its new president and Adnan Aziz Chowdhury as the general secretary.

The 27-member committee was formed on Saturday afternoon following a 13-hour council session where 59 councillors exercised their voting rights.

Formed in 1952, Bangladesh Students' Union is one of the leading left-leaning students’ bodies in Bangladesh.

This was the 34th council of the organisation’s DU Unit.  The new general secretary spoke to The Financial Express (FE) shortly after the committee was announced.

“Being connected with ordinary students is an important thing in campus politics. For this, we have given priority to current students in our panel.”

“Our plan is to communicate directly with on-campus students about their problems, demands, and proposed solutions. We have plans to take effective steps to address political issues like gonoroom (where first-year students are crammed into a small living space) and guest rooms.
