Disaster management exercise to be held at BUP

BUP Disaster Management Forum (BUPDMF) is going to launch the second edition of Disaster Management Exercise (DMX 2.0): an Inter-university disaster management idea and policy-making competition on October 12 and 13 at the Bangladesh University Of Professionals (BUP) campus. The event will be launched under the supervision of the department of Disaster Management and Resilience (DMR) and is designed to keep similarities with the international event 'Disaster Response Exercise and Exchange (DREE)' organised by The Armed Forces Division.

The event will provide ongoing undergraduate and postgraduate students with the learning opportunity about disaster management and will allow students to flourish their expertise in disaster-related subjects.

The agenda of DMX 2.0 will be fire, which is one of the most perilous disasters in Bangladesh. Several fire tragedies in our country proved the lack and gaps in our fire policy and management. Hence, to address those issues and minimise these gaps, a series of panel discussions and TTX (Table Top Exercise) will be conducted over the two days of the program.

On the panel, experts from various fields, officials from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR), Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD), academicians, and media personnel will be present to enlighten the participants of the event. Students from different public and private universities will be the main stakeholders of the TTX session.

DMX 2.0 will encase an Inter-University competition which will bring out new ideas and policy suggestions from the participants for existing Fire Safety and Fighting Codes of Bangladesh. Each university will form a team consisting of 3 to 5 members. The participants will be given different scenarios of fire incidents. They will be asked to come up with solutions and address the issue's existing policy gaps and grey areas. The top 3 presentations and special mentions will be awarded at the end of the ceremony.

Previously, BUPDMF organised DMX 1.0, a three-day conference focused on earthquakes incorporating students, academicians, experts, and policymakers.
