BUP Film Club (BUPFC), one of the emerging clubs of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), will organise 'BUP Film Fest 2022' on August 02 and 03, 2022, on BUP campus. It is an inter-university film festival on a national scale.
With the tagline ‘Break the Continuity’, the festival will showcase short films. Competitions like cine-quiz, scriptwriting, cosplay, and poster design will also be held at this event which will allow young minds to explore the realm of film. Interested students can find the registration details of competitions in the Facebook event named 'BUP Film Fest 2022'.
Sanjoy Basak Partha, lecturer at BUP and also moderator of BUP Film Club, said, "BUPFC is providing a much-needed platform to young film enthusiasts. The film is not only a medium of entertainment but rather a reflection of various cultures and societies, which helps to enlighten our souls. Despite being the youngest club of the university, BUPFC is trying to be a trendsetter with its production and other activities. I feel delighted to be a part of this passionate team."
The third edition of BUP Film Fest will have veteran actor Abul Hayat as its special guest. It will also showcase 'Mudrakathan', the first-ever short film made by BUPFC along with a stage drama organised and displayed by members of the club.
To date, BUPFC has organised various festivals and events, which provided multiple opportunities for young filmmakers to develop their skills in different segments of films through their participation. BUPFC has been working for the students to give them a platform to exhibit their talents by producing and submitting short films, script writing, posters and much more.
Md Zahidur Rabbi, the president of BUP Film Club said, "Our young generation breathes on films or series. Films set up new trends and reform our society. Similarly, films act as our escape, our therapy sessions while surviving amidst this capitalist hustle culture. Like the growing film industry of our country, BUP Film Club is trying its best to create a platform for Gen Z, so that the young talented minds get the chance to showcase their skills, proficiency, and self-worth."
Previously, BUP Film Club organised two flagship festivals in 2019 and 2021. During the time of lockdown, ‘Celluloid stories 1.0’, an online short film-making competition was launched.
"The main purpose of organising our film festival is to create an ideal platform for emerging filmmakers where they will have the opportunity to practice and showcase their work, skills, and talents. Youngsters from any university will also have the opportunity to know, learn and teach. We are also giving more opportunities to write and submit scripts, cosplay etc.," commented General Secretary of BUPFC Abdullah Al Soad.
