Bangladeshi ambassador in Albany seeks Eid holidays in academic institutions

Bangladesh Consul General in New York Sadia Faizunnesa proposed for declaring Eid holidays at the Albany city’s academic institutions on the Muslims greatest celebrations as she called on its mayor Albany Kathy M Sheehan at the latter’s office on Friday.

“Given the growing number of American-Bangladeshi in Albany City, the consul general proposed the mayor to declare Eid holidays in the academic institutions on the occasion of the Muslims greatest celebrations in New York City,” according to a statement received in Dhaka Saturday.

She also requested for a Community Center for Bangladeshi-American in the city, the release added.

Albany city mayor Sheehan warmly welcomed and congratulated Faizunnesa for assuming the post of Consul General of Bangladesh in New York and mentioned that she would positively consider the consul general’s proposal, it said.

During the meeting, the mayor expressed her satisfaction for the activities of Bangladeshi-American, raising her desire to promote an expatriate friendly environment in her city.

Faizunnesa thanked the mayor for extending continuous support to the Bangladeshi-American community living in Albany, the New York State’s Capital City.

The consul general also assured the mayor of all possible assistance for the welfare of the Bangladeshi-American community and invited her to visit Bangladesh, BSS reported.

Counsellor and Head of Chancery Chowdhury Sultana Perveen was present in the meeting.
