Right way of using hair styling tools to avoid heat damage

To get saloon-like hair at home, we often style our hair using an electric hair appliance. But if we do not manage our hair properly, we can face hair breakage, split ends, dull and dry strands, etc. So, if you want to avoid going to a parlour or saloon, here's what you need to know.

Shampoo once a week

An effective shampoo and conditioner is the foundation of healthy hair. The most important steps for our hair care routine are proper hair cleaning, hydrating, and thoroughly conditioning the strands. Shampoo and conditioners with paraben and sulfates can strip your strand's essential oils, leaving them brittle and dry.

With frequent use of heat protective products or any styling products, it's essential to purify the hair to ensure no product buildup. You can use a clarifying shampoo to deeply clean your strands once or twice a week, not regularly.

Nourishment

A hair mask works best on heat-damaged hair to bring its shine back as it hydrates and deeply conditions the hair to replenish moisture. Just swap your daily conditioner with a conditioning mask once a week, let it soak in for a few minutes, and then wash it off.

Heat protection

We use SPF on our skin to protect it from sun damage. The same goes for our hair too. Therefore, hair protectant to protect our hair from heat damage is necessary. It is essential to use a heat protectant before using an electric hair tool to maintain the hair's quality. It also helps the styling last longer. Heat protectant builds a shield between our hair and the tool to save them from getting damaged. It also prevents breakage, frizz, and damage to the follicles.

Setting the right temperature

A common mistake in using a hair dryer is using the maximum heat available in the tool. This will fast-track the damage no matter how much heat protectant you apply to your hair strands.

While the temperature varies based on your hair type and texture, it is safe to stick within the 200-300° Fahrenheit range for normal hair conditions. Those with fine hair can keep it to 200° Fahrenheit or below. Do not focus on a specific part of the hair portion for a long time. The dryer should be used uniformly on all parts of your hair.

The best aid for keeping your hair healthy is to avoid heat hairstyling. You can try doing braids to easy updos so you don't find yourself reaching out for your tools daily. You can get glossy hair by regularly applying hair serum or essential oil on dry hair strands. Above all, if you prefer to use dryer or styling appliances, go for the best products even if that cost more. Cheaper options often do not have heat control and damage the hair significantly.
