The Chathannur police of India on Thursday arrested Jayamol on charges of murdering her 14-year-old son Jithu Job on the night of January 15.
The body with limbs dismembered was found in a charred state in the premises of the house by the police on Wednesday evening.
Police said that as per her confession, after asphyxiating her son, Jayamol dismembered his body, dragged it outside and set the body ablaze.
On Tuesday Jayamol, along with her husband Job, lodged a man-missing complaint with the Chathannur police. Police suspect that the body was burned prior to dismembering as no blood stains have been found.
It was the contradictory statements from her that made the police take her into custody. The body was found in a charred state, the police also noted burns on Jayamol's hands.
After that the police took Jayamol into custody for further interrogation to probe whether more persons were involved in the murder.
Police have ruled out the involvement of any other person. Job told media persons that of late Jaymol was often found to be mentally disturbed.
Jithu used to tease her in this connection and that had led to quarrels between the mother and son, he said. Many a time he had intervened to calm the situation. He said that during such quarrels Jayamol used to turn violent.
While the murder took place Job was not at home. He works as a pharmacist at a medical store. On reaching home he enquired about his son and Jayamol told him that he had gone out to purchase a scale in the evening but did not return.
The father along with relatives and neighbours then launched a search but could not find him.
The next day they lodged the man missing-complaint. Jayamol was on Thursday night produced before a magistrate court in Paravur and remanded in judicial custody.
Jithu's body was brought to the house in the afternoon after the autopsy at the Thiruvananthapuram medical college hospital.
A huge crowd arrived there to pay their last respects. Many of the women were seen venting their anger on Jayamol when she was brought there by the police to see the body.
The funeral rites were held at the cemetery of the Mukathala Saint George Orthodox Church in the evening, reports The Times of India.
