Who wants to have a typical healthy drink after fasting for at least 15 hot hours during the month of Ramadan?

Well, probably nobody, because everyone would like a tasty drink, a refreshing drink that can cheer both the body and the mind up. On a funny note, a common perception in our country about food is, tasty food cannot be healthy and vice versa.

As a counter perception, a mother and a doctor of Borlekha Upazilla Health Complex, Dr Priyanka told this writer, “Packed drinks we find in the shops or stores are highly unhygienic because of the added preservatives, though they tempt us by their taste and marketing.”

“Homemade drinks can also be tasty. All you’ll need is just to put some added flavourful things like bit-salt, lime juice, lemon leaves, mint leaves etc. while preparing the drink,” she added.

In addition, when asked about her personal recommendations, Dr Priyanka referred to drinks like muskmelon juice, laban, watermelon-mint tequila, mint-cucumber sherbet etc.

Muskmelon Juice

One won’t need a lot of ingredients to make this drink. It will only take some cute little muskmelon cubes, a decent amount of sugar, crushed ice and some lime juice.

Firstly, the muskmelon cubes, sugar and ice should be blended together. And especially not to forget to add water before blending. After blending, put some lime juice into it, and bam! The muskmelon juice is ready.

Serve the drink as soon as possible for a refreshing, chilled healthy experience. For those who are not fond of muskmelon for its taste, this juice is a must-try for them.

Benefits

Muskmelon is excessively rich in minerals, as well as vitamin C, beta carotene, folic acid and a lot of water. Because it contains almost no sugar, the muskmelon juice is ideal for even diabetic patients. Muskmelon also contains a lot of fibre.

Again, besides eliminating the slightly irritating flavour of muskmelon, the lime juice used in the drink also supplies vitamin C and other antioxidants to the body.

Laban

This unbelievably tasty drink is basically a guest to our cuisine, originating from the Arabic culture. It is mainly the collaboration of whey and sour curd. Besides, sugar, lime juice, cardamom and salt are also needed.

Make a mixture of whey, sour curd, cardamom, and enough salt and sugar first, and let it rest for 30-40 minutes. Then blend the mixture and serve with crushed ice.

Benefits

Laban holds an appealing and addictingly strong flavour from the cardamom that works like a magic spell for a refreshment. Laban improves the digestive and immune systems. It also reduces the rate of bone erosion.

Watermelon-mint Tequila

Some watermelon slices, a bit of lime juice, some mint leaves and enough amount of bit-salt and sugar – these are the ingredients of watermelon-mint tequila.

Peel the slices of watermelon first, get rid of the seeds and cut the slices into small cubes. Then blend the cubes with all the other ingredients. Strain the mixture, and then serve the drink with crushed ice.

Benefits

Watermelon is rich in minerals and vitamins. It helps to resist cardiovascular diseases and controls the body’s cholesterol.

Watermelon is also good for health. Plus, mint leaves are well known for containing nutrients like vitamin A, B, C, iron, potassium, manganese and plenty of antioxidants, menthol and phytonutrients, all of which are of excellent use for the human body.
