A two-day ‘zakat’ fair will begin in the city on Friday, aiming to create awareness among people about zakat distribution and poverty alleviation.
Centre for Zakat Management (CZM) is going to organise the event Zakat Fair 2018 with the theme of 'Making a Difference with Zakat' at Bangladesh Shooting Sport Federation in the city's Gulshan area.
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal will inaugurate the fair in the morning, AMM Nasir Uddin, member secretary of the fair organising committee, told a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) on Thursday, reports UNB.
He said they are arranging the fair for the sixth time which will remain open from 9.00 am to 6.30 pm.
Nasir said the main objectives of the event are to make people aware about the significance and rules of Zakat, one of the five pillars of Islam, help people make the proper calculation of zakat amount and sharing the experiences and successes of different organisations working for poverty reduction through Zakat.
He said four seminars, including a special one for women, will be held on the sidelines of the two-day fair on different aspects of zakat.
Nasir called upon people, including the well-off ones, to visit the fair and know the proper way and rules of Zakat calculation and distribution.
