A section of students of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College has threatened to go on hunger strike demanding the release of grade nine class teacher Hasna Hena, who is in jail, in a case filed over the suicide of Aritree Adhikari.
They staged demonstrations in front of Bailey road branch of the school on Sunday morning and announced the hunger strike if the teacher is not released.
The students have been demonstrating since Thursday demanding their teacher's release.
Some of the demonstrating students said they want proper investigation into the incident and immediate release of their teacher Hasna Hena, UNB reported.
Detectives arrested Hasna Hena from the city's Uttara on Wednesday night amid protests of students over the suicide incident. A Dhaka court sent her to jail the next day.
Ninth grader Aritree committed suicide by hanging herself on Monday, hours after the school's teachers allegedly insulted her and her parents for carrying a mobile phone at examination hall.
Her father Dilip Adhikari later filed a case against three teachers, including the principal, of the school.
The Education Ministry on Tuesday formed a three-member probe committee which found three teachers of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College responsible for the suicide of Aritree Adhikari.
The governing body on Wednesday suspended its three teachers, including the acting Principal Nazneen Ferdous.
The two other teachers are morning shift in-charge of Bailey Road branch, Jeenat Akhter and Aritree's class teacher Hasna Hena.
Earlier the Ministry of Education sent a letter to the police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) directing them to take legal action against the three teachers for their rude behaviour with Aritree that prompted her to commit suicide.
