US Embassy in Dhaka expressed concern over the security of Ambassador Peter Haas to the government after he was allegedly obstructed by a group of people when he joined a programme in the city on Wednesday morning.
Asked to comment on the issue, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said that he had assured the envoy that the government would ensure his security.
Commenting on the issue, a spokesperson of the US Embassy said, “The US ambassador and embassy staff concluded a meeting early on December 14 due to security concerns. We have raised this matter at the highest levels of the Bangladeshi government.”
It was learnt that when Mr Haas went to visit family members of a person who is an alleged victim of enforced disappearance, a group of people obstructed him and asked him to listen to them.
