Sadharan Bima Corporation handed over US$ 0.7 million, equivalent to Tk 57.0 million on Sunday as part of the insurance money claimed by US-Bangla Airlines.
Chairman of Sadharan Bima Corporation Prof Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam handed over the insurance cheque to Chief Executive Officer of Sena Kalyan Insurance Company Brig Gen (retd) Md Shafique Shamim at Sadharan Bima Bhaban in Dhaka.
US Bangla Airlines claimed US$ 7 million from Sena Kalyan Insurance Company which is reinsured with Sadharan Bima.
Prof Rubayat said this is the first part of their insurance money while another portion of US$ 1.42 million will soon be handed over, reports UNB.
Earlier on March 22, UK-based insurance company handed over US$ 4.172 million to US Bangla authorities.
The 76-seater Bombardier had 71 people, including four crew members, on board when it crashed in a field near Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport on March 12, killing 50 people and injuring others.
Among the deceased, 27 are Bangladeshis (including all four crew members), 22 Nepalese and one is a Chinese citizen.
