Traffic congestion eases on Dhaka-Chattogram

Traffic congestion started to ease on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway after 11am on Saturday, creating relief for the passengers.

Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Doudkandi Highway Police Station said the tailback stretching from Meghna-Gumti Bridge toll plaza to Shahidnagar has normalised due to the sincere duty of traffic police.

Huge pressure of goods-laden vehicles is continuing on the highway as plying of these vehicles will be suspended for six days before and after the Eid day to make the journey of the homebound people easier.

Plying of goods-laden vehicles will remain suspended from Sunday for the next six days for keeping the traffic jam in control, the OC added, reports UNB.

Earlier till Saturday morning, hundreds of passengers were suffering as a 5-kilometre long tailback was created on Dhaka-Chattogram highway from the Toll Plaza to Shahidnagar in Doudkandi upazila from dawn due to the heavy pressure of vehicles.

Dhaka-bound passengers were suffering for the 5th successive day as the tailback on the highway continued since Tuesday last.
