Tidal surge likely to flood coastal districts

The low-lying areas of the coastal districts and offshore islands and Chars are likely to be inundated by surge height of 2-3 feet above normal astronomical tide under the influence of a monsoon depression.

The coastal districts include Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Borguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirojpur, Jhalakati, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira, reports UNB.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no three as a well-marked low over Northwest Bay and adjoining West Bengal-Odisha coast intensified  and now lies over coastal Odisha and adjoining northwest Bay as  a monsoon land depression, said a Met office bulletin.

It is likely to move west or northwest further, according to a bulletin of the Met office issued Wednesday.

Under its influence steep pressure gradient persists over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

Squally weather is likely to affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal area of Bangladesh, it said.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
