A three-day fish fair began at city’s Krishibid Institute Bangladesh (KIB) Sunday.
The Department of Fisheries (DoF) under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock organised the ‘Fish Fair’, marking the National Fisheries Week.
A total of 24 stalls of government, non-government and online fish marketing institutions are participating in the fair with various fish projects.
Fresh and live fishes are being displayed at the fair.
“We are selling Koi and Rui fish at Tk 160 per kg…Shing and Pabda at Tk 350 and 600 per kg respectively,” said Hira-Mukta Multi Purpose Fish Project Owner Md Hazrat Ali Sarker.
Different fish fries of shing, gulsha, tilapia, pabda, shol and fish feed were also being sold at the fair, he added.
A KIB official said the fair will remain open for all from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm every day.
The National Fisheries Week began across the country on July 18 with a view to creating awareness among people for producing more fish through proper use of water-bodies and protecting indigenous fish species from extinction, said a BSS report.
The slogan for this year is ‘Bangabandhu’s country self-sufficient with fish’.
Earlier, on the first day of the week, a colourful rally was brought out from the Matsya Bhaban.
On the concluding day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will release fish fries in city’s Ganobhaban Lake on 28 July.
