Election Commission (EC) on Monday said the electoral code of conduct cannot prohibit BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from taking interview of their party candidates from abroad through videoconferencing.
"As Tarique Rahman joined the BNP nomination board through videoconferencing from abroad, the electoral code of conduct is not applicable for him and the EC has nothing to do with it," said EC Secretary.
EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said it to reporters after an Awami League delegation complained about the matter, according to news agencies.
The matter was discussed in detail by the Election Commission, he said.
“But as the High Court has issued order on the matter [of publishing of Tarique’s statements], it is everyone’s responsibility to follow it”, added Mr Ahmed.
