Special bus service for women opens in city

A special bus service for women has officially started operation in Dhaka aiming to relieve female commuters from unwanted experiences.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the bus service, Dolonchapa, on Saturday.

The service is a joint venture of the Rangs Group and Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV).

Two air-conditioned buses of Indian Volvo Eicher Vehicles Limited started plying while eight more transports will be opened within next two months. More 60 buses will be included under the service gradually, reports BSS.

In the first phase, 10 buses will run from Mirpur 12 to Motijheel and 60 more buses from ECB Chattar to Azimpur of the city.

The buses will be operated by female helpers and conductors and the buses have special entrances for physically challenged people.

Each luxury bus contains 36 seats with some other facilities, including comfortable seats, first aid facilities and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera coverage.

The opening programme was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Saturday.

Rangs Group Chairman Abdur Rouf Chowdhury, General Secretary of Dhaka Sarak Paribahan Samity Khandaker Enayet Ullah Khan and Managing Director of Rangs Motors Ltd Sohan Rouf Chowdhury, among others, were present on the occasion.
