Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday left Dhaka for Geneva, Switzerland to attend the 139th assembly of Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The assembly with the theme ‘Placing science at the heart of parliaments, policy-making and peace’ is scheduled to begin on October 14 and it will end on October 18, according to an official release.
Speaker is leading a 17-member Bangladesh delegation over the 5-day session.
More than 1,300 MPs from different countries are taking part in the assembly this year, BSS reports.
The assembly will discuss various important issues such as invention of information, science and technology, tackling false news and sexual harassment, human rights, disarmament, counterterrorism, sustainable development and immigration.
The speaker is expected to return home on October 18, 2018.
