The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology have filed a complaint with police over an attack on Prof Zafar Iqbal on the campus.
A case has not been filed over the incident because police have not completed preparations, said Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge at Sylhet’s Jalalabad Police Station.
A man attacked Prof Iqbal during a campus event on Saturday.
The attacker, a madrasa student named Faizur Rahman, also known as Faizul, was apprehended by teachers and students. He was later taken into RAB custody.
Prof Iqbal was taken to Osmani Medical College Hospital for a surgery and then transferred to the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka for further treatment. Doctors say he is out of danger.

“We filed a complaint at Jalalabad Police Station last night,” SUST Registrar Ishfaqul Hussain said. “Faizul and several unidentified suspects were accused in the complaint.”
“There are some weaknesses on the part of the law the university administration used to file the complaint,” Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner MA Wahhab said. “We will file a case after we do a little more work.”
According to bdnews24, Prof Iqbal, a teacher of SUST Computer Science and Engineering Department, has repeatedly voiced his loud opposition to militancy and communalism.
