The government has decided to remove the name of former president Ziaur Rahman from the name plaque of 'Shaheed Zia Shishu Park' situated at Shahbagh here.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque came up with the announcement on Wednesday at a press briefing at the secretariat on the observance of March 25 as 'Genocide Day'.
"The park will be named as 'Shishu Park' changing the current name 'Shaheed Zia Shishu Park," said the Minister.
The nameplate of the children's park will be removed within a week, the Minister said further.
"Many people probably do not know it. Massive campaign will be launched after the renovation works of the park have done," he said.
Earlier, the government decided to observe a one-minute 'Blackout' programme on the night of March 25, marking the 'Genocide day'.
The 'Blackout' programme will be observed for one minute from 9pm on March 25, said the minister.
We are also planning to blow siren to remind people about it as well as make announcement through loudspeakers in all mosques across the country on the night of March 25, reports UNB.
