The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Tuesday demanded formulating a policy for appointing judges to the Supreme Court.
SCBA President Zainul Abedin made the demand at a press conference at the council’s auditorium.
The demand was made against the backdrop of Law Minister Anisul Huq's announcement judges would be appointed to the High Court Division soon, reports UNB.
The SCBA chief said honest, skilled and meritorious persons should be appointed as judges to ensure the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law.
He also demanded that a High Court order which was passed on April 13 last be followed while recruiting judges to the apex court.
All qualified applicants should be given scope to submit their applications through the Supreme Court website, Zainul said.
SCBA Secretary Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon along with both pro-BNP and Awami League leaders of the association were present.
