Bangladesh Safe Food Authority (BSFA) will augment its surveillance to ensure sales and marketing of safe Iftar items during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, said chairman of BSFA.
"We will intensify monitoring to ensure sales and marketing of hygienic food items for Iftar for the health safety of the consumers during Ramadan," Chairman of BSFA Abdul Qayum Sarker said while addressing a workshop on mass awareness about safe and hygiene foods at Jamal Sardar Community Centre at Chalkbazar in the capital on Wednesday.
Legal action will be taken against the persons involved in preparing and selling adulterated food items during the month of fasting, he warned.
"It's not our aim to punish and fine the traders rather we are creating awareness among them (traders) so that they can prepare safe Iftar items for the consumers during Ramadan," he said.
He warned traders against selling unsafe and adulterated food items for Iftar to make extra profits.
Member of BSFA (Public Health and Nutrition) Manzur Morshed Ahmed presided over the event.
