Road crashes claim seven lives

At least seven people have died in separate road accidents in Sylhet, Cumilla, Rajshahi and Joypurhat districts.

Eight other people were also injured in the accidents that took place on Saturday, reports UNB.

In Sylhet, at least three people were killed and four others severely injured in a collision involving three vehicles on Sylhet-Sunamganj road at Gobindaganj in Chhatak upazila in the afternoon.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Atikur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chhatak Police Station, said a Sunamganj bound bus collided head-on with two auto-rickshaws near Sada Bridge in the area around 3 pm, leaving the trio dead on the spot and four others severely injured.

Later, the injured were taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, added the OC.

In Cumilla, two workers of a factory were killed and two others severely injured as a covered van hit a roadside shop at Nuritala in Chandina upazila.

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.

Iliatganj Highway Police Outpost's SI Manirul Islam said some workers of Ayesha Jute Mills of the area took shelter inside a roadside shop as the rain started while they were going to their workplace.

The accident took place when the covered van hit the shop after its driver lost control over the steering around 12 pm, leaving the duo dead on the spot and the other two others severely injured.

Later, locals took the injured to Chandina Health Complex.

Police seized the covered van from the spot.

In Rajshahi, a young man was killed and two other people were injured critically as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch on Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj road in Kadipur area of Godagari upazila in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Nasim, 25, hailing from Chapainawabganj district.

Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge of Godagari Model police station, said that the accident took place around 6:30 am when the Chapainawabganj-bound 'National Travels' bus fell into the ditch after its driver lost control over the steering, leaving the youth dead on the spot and two other people injured.

In Joypurhat, a bicyclist was killed as a sand-laden tractor hit him on Nengapir-Ishopur road at Sagunachora village in sadar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Gafur, 58, son of late Tazi Uddin of Chandrakola village of Dhamoirhat upazila in Naogaon.

Md Muminul Haque, officer-in-charge of Joypurhat Police Station, said the accident took place when a tractor hit the victim when he was returning his home on his bicycle in the morning.
