Restoring democracy in the country is now a big challenge for BNP, said the party secretary general Mirza Fakrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday, vowing to continue their movement for it.
“Our fight will continue for restoring democracy and people’s rights,” secretary general of BNP Mirza Fakrul Islam Alamgir told the media after offering munajat and floral wreaths at the mazar of party founder late president Ziaur Rahmna on the occasion of 40th founding anniversary of the party
“Today is the 40th founding anniversary of our party. This day is not for celebration. We visited the mausoleum of the party founder with deep sorrows and pain as our chairperson is now in jail,” he said.
He said that the acting chairman of the party is now staying outside of the country as he is implicated in false cases filed by the ruling party.
Meanwhile, the party stalwarts from different places of the city and adjoining Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur, Munshiganj and Manikganj have joined the rally that started at 3:00 pm.
The participants in the rally demanded the release of party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Vehicular movement was briefly halted at Naya Paltan, Kakrail, Fakirapool and some other adjoining areas due to the rally.
