Quota protesters have gathered at Shahbagh in Dhaka city blocking one of the main thoroughfares to press home their demand that a gazette be issued on the quota abolition immediately.
They gathered there at around 1:00pm on Monday. Before this, they brought out processions at Dhaka University, parading various streets on the campus to push for the same demand.
Quota protests have been being organised under the banner of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council.
Joint Convener of the council Rashed Khan said, “We have given ultimatum again and again but no gazette has been issued and so we gathered here.
“We wanted the reform, not the committee (on quota). We thank the Prime Minister because she has removed the quota system. Now we want it in the gazetted form.”
Quota protesters on Sunday called an indefinite class and examination boycott programme at all educational institutions across the country from Monday as the government failed to meet their demand by that day afternoon.
