President Abdul Hamid visited the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project sites in Munshiganj and Shariatpur on Monday.
He expressed his satisfaction to hear that 53 per cent of the construction work of the much-awaited project has already completed till end of March this year.
President was apprised of the different activities of this mega project fully financed by the present government as he reached the Padma Bridge Service Area -1 at Mawa part of Munshiganj at 2 pm.
According to UNB, he was briefed by Senior Secretary of Bridges Division of the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry Khandker Anwarul Islam.
Thanking all concerned President said nation's emotion, dream and potentials are closely mixed with the much-awaited Padma multi-purpose bridge.
The bridge would also facilitate regional trade, promote industrial and commercial activities and increase economic and employment opportunities, he added.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, lawmakers Sagufta Yasmin Emily, Mrinal Kanti Das and B.M. Muzammel Haque, Awami League Organising Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and senior civil and military officials accompanied President Hamid.
President will return to Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
