President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday urged the Information Commission to be more active and dynamic for ensuring the free flow of information.
"Getting information is one of people’s basic rights. The Commission will have to be more active and dynamic so that people of all levels can get their desired information on time,' President said.
He said this while a four-member delegation of Information Commission, led by the Chief Information Commissioner Martuza Ahmed, submitted its annual report 2017 to him at Bangabhaban in the city.
The head of the state said, "The more people will be aware, the more they will be interested in exercising the Right to Information Act. If the Right to Information Act is applied properly, it will play a significant role in stamping out the corruption from the society."
Appraising about the Information Commission activities to the President, the chairman said they have taken various measures to raise the awareness in the district and upazila levels by ensuring the participation of the root level employees and public representatives, reports UNB.
Information Commissioners – Nepal Chandra Sarker and Suraiya Begum, and Information Commission secretary Muhibul Hossain were present in the meeting.
Later, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Prof Farzana Islam also called on the President at 4;00pm.
The VC apprised the President about different academic and administrative activities of the university.
During the meeting, President Hamid, also the chancellor of the university asked the VC to attach priority to the various research works in the university.
Secretaries concerned to the President were also present during the meeting.
