The health authorities fear yet another surge of Covid-19 infections after the Eid due to huge movement of people centring the festival.
Director general of health services Prof Dr ABM Khurshid Alam on Tuesday expressed the fear about a notable rise in infection after the celebration of Eid.
He requested all to do coronavirus test at local health facilities and remain isolated, if needed, to save their family members.
Prof Alam said the people who are rushing out of Dhaka in thousands to their homes might bring a disaster for the country.
His comments came during an emergency virtual press briefing in the afternoon.
Additional director generals Prof Dr Nasima Sultana and Prof Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora also spoke.
Prof Alam said none can predict when the elimination of the virus. Thus, there is no alternative but to follow the health rules as long as the virus exists.
Prof Flora called upon everybody to celebrate this Eid on a limited scale inside a closed environment as the festival is taking place at an abnormal time.
She also drew the attention of the Imams to find ways to hold the Eid congregations in an alternative way and in open spaces. However, thirty-three more people died from Covid-19 in Bangladesh on Tuesday, raising the death toll to 12,005.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) also reported 1,230 new Covid-19 cases in the country during the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on the day.
With the latest daily count, the total caseload reached 776,257 since the coronavirus was first detected in Bangladesh in March 2020.
A total of 14,184 samples were tested, including antigen-based rapid tests, while 14,032 samples were collected across the country during the last 24-hour reporting time, said a press release issued by DGHS.
The Covid-19 test positivity rate remained almost the same at 8.67 per cent on Tuesday.
However, a total of 3,044 people also recovered from the coronavirus disease in the country during the last 24 hours.
The rate of recovery from the coronavirus disease was reported at 92.15 per cent on the day, according to the DGHS.
The rate of fatalities from Covid-19 inched up further to 1.55 on the day against 1.54 per cent on the previous day, it added.
Meanwhile, a total of 97,337 people received the 2nd dose of vaccine across the country on Tuesday. Of them, 60,370 were male and 36,967 were female.
With these, the government administered more than 5.82 million doses of 1st dose and over 3.59 million 2nd dose of Covid-19 vaccines across the country since the mass vaccination programme was launched in the country on February 7 last.
However, nearly 7.25 million people got registered for receiving Covid-19 vaccine until 5:30 pm on April 11, 2021.
