Police have arrested a leader of the Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh(JMB) at Omarpur in Nandigram upazilain of Bogra early Saturday.
Police said he is the militant outfit’s southern region chapter.
He was detained from the northern district’s Nandigram Upazila early Friday.
“Abu Sayeed alias Karim alias Shyamol is a member of the JMB’s Shura (supreme council) member and the southern region chief,” Additional Superintendent of Police Sanatan Chakraborty said.
According to bdnews 24 police seized a handgun, ammunition, a knife and a motorcycle from the suspected terrorist.
Abu Sayeed, a suspect in the 2014 blast at a JMB hideout in India’s West Bengal, was arrested around 1am Friday.
He was nabbed from the Upazila’s Omarpur Bazar during a raid conducted by Detective Branch personnel from the Police Headquarters and Bogra police, said senior officer Chakraborty.
