Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday expressed profound shock and deepest condolence at the loss of lives and devastation caused by a massive earthquake in Mexico.
In a message of condolence sent to Mexico President Enrique Peña Nieto, Sheikh Hasina said, "I’m deeply saddened to learn about the tragic loss of lives and devastation caused by the massive earthquake that struck the Mexico City and its surrounding states," reports UNB.
She said unfortunately, another earthquake, the strongest one in a century, shook the country in less than two weeks ago resulting in fatalities and destruction of property.
The incident has become even more depressing as it coincides with the 32nd anniversary of the devastating earthquake that killed thousands in Mexico in 1985, the Prime Minister added.
On behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, Hasina conveyed heartfelt sympathies and deepest condolences for the deceased and the victims of the earthquake and their bereaved families. "The people of Bangladesh stand by the friendly people of Mexico at this difficult time and pray for their early return to normalcy," she added.
