PM allots flats to three former national players

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given residential flats to two former national footballers and a hockey player.

The footballers are Sheikh Ashraf Ali and late Monem Munna and hockey player is late Zahidur Rahman Pushkin.

The prime minister handed over the allotment letters of the flats to Sheikh Ashraf Ali, and Monem Munna’s wife Yasmin Monem and Pushkin’s wife Fahmida Rahman at a function held at Ganabhaban in Dhaka today (Thursday) morning.

The flats located at Mirpur in the capital city were allocated to them at the personal initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for their outstanding contributions to the country’s football and hockey.

Awami League’s Youth and Sports Secretary Harunur Rashid, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Kazi Salahuddin, Vice-Presidents Kazi Nabil Ahmed, MP, and Abdus Salam Murshedy, MP, and General Secretary Abu Nayeem Sohag and senior officials of the Prime Minister’s Office were present on the occasion.

Housing and Public Works Secretary Shahidullah Khandakar conducted the function, BSS reported.

Apart from the national team, football legend Monem Munna played for the country’s premier sports club Abahani Ltd, while Pushkin played hockey for the same club.

Sheikh Ashraf Ali was also a former footballer of Abahani Ltd, founded by Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
