Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has said that it’ll investigate into the rape of four women during a robbery in Chittagong.
Additional Superintendent Md Moin Uddin, who heads the PBI’s Chittagong metropolitan unit, said on Tuesday, “We have taken charge of the investigation from the local police.”
The development comes after a senior officer of Chittagong Metropolitan Police said on Monday that they were ‘negligent’ in their delays in starting a case over the incident in port city’s Karnaphuli neighbourhood.
“Police were partially negligent in lodging the case and conducting an initial investigation at the crime scene,” Deputy Commissioner Harun Ur Rashid said at a press conference. “The matter should have been investigated more seriously.”
Late on December 12, burglars raped four women while robbing a home in Karnaphuli’s Barauthan.
The following day, the women went to file a case over the incident but police were reluctant to take the case over a complication with their address.
According to bdnews24.com, the case was accepted five days later following the intervention of State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury.
Police have so far, arrested three people in connection with the case.
