The much-awaited Padma Bridge will be opened on June 25 this year.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the bridge from the Mawa approach side after a citizen gathering at 10:00 am.
After the inauguration, the prime minister will address a programme, marking Awami League’s founding anniversary.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader disclosed this after a meeting with the premier at her Ganabhaban residence on Tuesday.
The minister along with bridges division secretary Mohammad Monjur Hossain met the PM with two summary papers of the Bridges Division for finalising the inaugural date for the country's longest bridge and another for selecting the bridge's name.
Quader, after the meeting, briefed the journalists that the date has been finalised by the prime minister.
But the premier did not sign the other paper and said the bridge will be named after the River Padma. "Any person or family name will not be allowed for the bridge," he told the journalists quoting Sheikh Hasina as saying.
