Terming that Bangladesh has improved substantially in labour standards, Law Minister Anisul Huq said the number of trade unions in the readymade garments (RMG) industry has also increased from 132 in 2013 to 1,045 in 2021.
The success rate of trade union registration this year remained about 90 per cent, he pointed out.
The law minister was speaking at the 343rd meeting of the governing body of International Labor Organization (ILO) held on a virtual platform last night.
During the meeting, he highlighted the progress made in the implementation of the roadmap for further development of labour standards in the country during the period 2021-2026.
The meeting of the governing body of ILO is being held on a virtual platform from November 01 of this month. It will run until November 13.
Implementation of the roadmap for further development of labour standards in the country is moving ahead, he said, adding that from the very beginning, the government has been working to materialise the roadmap with utmost importance as per the time-bound plan.
"The government is committed to overcoming the minor obstacles in the labour sector and we are working tirelessly to implement those commitments," he said.
As a result, significant progress has been made in the labour standards in the country, he added.
