Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam on Sunday said that no prior notice will be issued to evict the grabbers of illegal establishments in the capital.
This was stated by the DNCC mayor during a drive to evict illegal structures of Lautola canal at Mohammadpur Basila in the capital.
He said that the length and width which are much- needed for the canal were not done while the existence of the canal had been destroyed by illegal occupation and construction
The canal with a length of about two and a half kilometres( 2.5 km) will be rescued and connected with the river Buriganga, he said.
Atiqul said that those who have already illegally occupied the canal and built various structures will have to stop the illegal occupation as soon as possible.
The canals must be rescued at any cost to free the city from waterlogging, he stated.
The DNCC mayor said that rescue and cleaning activities of canals are running in different places with the help of people. Demarcation of the two banks of each canal will be done and proper maintenance measures will be taken.
Responding to a question from reporters, Atiqul Islam said the canals were in a state of disarray due to the negligence of WASA and Water Development Board, which were in charge before handing over the canals to the DNCC.
