At least nine fire-fighters were killed and three went missing in their attempt to douse a massive fire which swept through a container depot in southeastern Bangladesh, according to Bangladesh's fire department.
The devastating fire, which killed a total of 41 people and 99 others were critically injured, broke out at a container facility on Saturday night at Sitakunda, 40km (25 miles) from the port city of Chittagong, triggering multiple explosions.
Confirming the matter, Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters’ deputy assistant director Shajahan Sikder said of the injured 15, one went back home after taking treatment from a hospital.
The dead victims had been at the scene attempting to douse the blaze, he told The Financial Express.
Of the injured victims, 12 were hospitalised to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Chattogram while two others were admitted at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
