The National Fisheries Week will begin in the country on Saturday with the aim of making the country’s people more aware of and involved in increasing safe fish production.
President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave a separate messages on this occasion.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to release fish at a lake of Ganabhaban on Sunday, the second day of the fisheries week.
PM Hasina will also inaugurate the week-long programme, scheduled to be held at the capital’s Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC), virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence at 10 am on the same day.
On the first day of the programme, a rally will be held at 8:00 am on Saturday at the capital’s Manik Mia Avenue.
Besides, the Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim will hold a press conference at Matsya Bhavan at 10:00 am.
A colourful naval rally will be held at Hatirjheel at 4:00 pm. on the day in the capital.
The slogan of this year's fisheries week is “Nirapad Mache Bharabo Desh, Bangabandhur Bangladesh” (Let’s the country be filled with safe fish production and Build the Bangabandhu's Bangladesh, according to a statement of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
On the occasion, the ministry has chalked out different programmes at the central, district and upazila level.
District, hill district and upazila committees have been formed to implement the field-level programmes.
Apart from this, as part of the central programme, a three-day central fish fair will be held at a spot adjacent to the BICC in the capital.
The fisheries week will end on July 29.
