Minimum monthly wage set for trawler, rubber workers

The minimum wage board has proposed Tk 10,520 and Tk 12,910 as minimum monthly wages for the workers of fishing trawler and rubber industries respectively.

The government fixed Tk 5,200 as minimum monthly wage for fishing trawler workers in 2015 while the last review for rubber industry was made at Tk 4950 in 2013.

A 5.0-per cent annual increment of the basic pay has also been announced for both sectors.

On June 13, labour and employment ministry issued two separate gazette notifications to this effect.

The minimum wage board, however, has sought opinion, recommendation and objection, if any, within 14 days into the publication of the gazettes.

A rubber factory worker from grade three will receive Tk 12,910 as minimum monthly wage.

Basic pay has been fixed at Tk 6,600, up from Tk 3,000, and house rent at Tk 2,310 against Tk 1,050, according to the gazette.

Medical and transport allowances have been fixed at Tk 1,500 each which was Tk 400 and Tk 200 respectively.

A grade-three rubber worker will get Tk 1,000 as hill allowance up by Tk 700 from existing Tk 300, it cites.

An apprentice rubber worker will get Tk 7,500 as gross monthly wage.

On the other hand, a grade-seven fishing trawler worker will get Tk 10,520 as minimum monthly wage with a proposed basic of Tk 6,800, up from Tk 3,400.

They will get Tk 2,720 and Tk 1,000 as house rent and medical allowance respectively.

An apprentice fishing trawler worker will get Tk 7,000 as gross monthly wage, according to the notification.
