Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’sBazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal number (R) two as severe cyclone storm ‘Yaas’ lies over the northwest bay and adjoining area, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in a special bulletin.
The cyclone storm ‘Yaas’ was centered about 575 km south-southwest of Chattogram port, 520 km south-southwest of Cox's Bazar, 515 km south-southwest of Mongla port, and 480 km south-southwest of Payra port at 9:00 am today (Tuesday), the bulletin reads.
The special bulletin, which is signed by Dr Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik, meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department, said the severe cyclonic storm is likely to intensify further, move in a north-northwesterly direction.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 km of the severe cyclone centre is about 89 kmph rising to 117 kmph in gusts or squalls.
The met office bulletin said that the sea would remain high near the centre of the severe cyclone, the Met office said.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to take shelter and remain in shelter until further notice, the bulletin said.
